approach by general managers across the League. For some players--guys who've shown an almost incomprehensible amount of loyalty to their star-crossed franchises--this was almost too much to handle. The superstar in question here is Kevin Garnett. After going through the motions of the team's shootaround on Friday (one day after the trade deadline), Garnett let the world know how he felt about his team's refusal to do anything personnel-wise:
"We're trying to get better, right?" Garnett said. "It is what it is."The word "opt-out" is in reference to the free-agent option that he can exercise after the 2007-2008 season. Of course this isn't the first time this year that KG's frustration with management has gone public; in August he told SLAM Magazine that "one thing that I can't stand is if I'm working hard and the organization upstairs isn't working hard, it's not fair. It's not fair to me. That's not fair to a person who's actually trying to get a championship."
"We made no moves. Typical,"
"Thank God for opt-outs", Garnett said.
It remains to be seen whether or not this is just another case of KG blowing off some steam, or if he's finally ready to do the sensible thing and move on to a better situation.
