Eight winning seasons in ten years as Giants GM doesn't matter. Neither do the four playoff berths and World Series appearance. Oh no. According to San Francisco Giants owner Peter Magowan, general manager Brian Sabean has been put on notice. From the Contra Costa Times
"We're all on the hot seat. I think a lot of Brian. He's one of the best general managers in the game. (But) we've had two disappointing years and we're all accountable. I'm accountable. We're all accountable for performance, and I think he understands that."
Yes, that was three "accountable" references in case you're keeping score at home -- so I don't think Magowan is messing around. As for Sabean's job prospects, about as good as Art Shell's. One can consider Barry Zito for Jason Schmidt a wash, but other than that, this team is not getting any younger, and Dave Roberts and Bengie Molina were the only semi-impact acquisitions. Hey Brian, I heard the Pirates were accepting job applications, better get on top of things.
