Todd Helton hasn't hit 40+ homers since '01 (when he crushed 49), and he hasn't even surpassed 20 dingers in either of the last two seasons. In fact, for those of you keeping score at home, Nick Markakis, Brandon Phillips, Xavier Nady, Tadahito Iguchi, and Curtis Granderson all had more bombs than Helton did last year...and apparently he's not happy about it. According to the Rockies website, Helton's sporting a new look

The triceps, shoulders and chest are bulked up -- a welcome sight after last year, when a stomach ailment robbed Helton of about 15 pounds and cost him 14 early-season games.
I highly doubt he needed to bulk up in order to "carry all that jewelry," but I'm sure Helton goin' deep in batting practice will be a welcome sight to Clint Hurdle. With a measly 15 bombas last year, Helton was cashing in a little over a mil per dinger. Maybe he's sick of being embarrassed by leadoff men in the power categories.
