Rumor Mill Puts Randy Moss on a Plane to Jacksonville

Sources out of Minneapolis are suggesting that disgruntled Oakland Raiders wide receiver Randy Moss -- say, isn't "disgruntled" just the status quo in Raider Nation these days? -- may be dealt to Jacksonville this offseason, where he'll be reunited with offensive coordinator Mike Tice, his former head coach with the Vikings.

This may be one of those rumors that just grew out of the scouting combine echo chamber. Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio had mentioned the possibility of bringing in a veteran wideout to play the slot and bring some leadership to the young receiving corps. Someone in the reporter's pool may have remembered that Tice is now in Jacksonville, put two and two together, and all of the sudden, the Jags are trading a first-day pick (if not a first-round pick) for the man for whom Tice created his own ratio.

It makes some sense when you think about it, though, if Oakland's willing to part with Moss for only a 2nd-round or 3rd-round pick. While Moss isn't exactly a team leader, he is a playmaker, he gives the Jags the deep threat they missed when Jimmy Smith retire, and he'll probably be happy to get the hell out of Oakland and play for a team that actually cares about winning.

Of course, I'll believe it when I see it, but rumors like this rarely sprout legs unless they make some actual sense.
