Depending on who you listen to, Michigan defensive tackle Alan Branch is wowing the pants
off the NFL...
"He reminds me a little bit of Shaun Rogers," Marinelli said of his Pro Bowler. "He could probably do either or. He's a big, athletic man. Explosive. And then he's also strong enough at the nose position, he still gives you the athleticism you like. He's a special inside player."
... or... uh... not
Branch ran relatively well in the 40, clocking under 5.10-seconds after weighing in at 324 pounds. He looked sluggish and sloppy during the drilling portion of the workout leading many to believe he is in poor shape.
There's also this Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel article which is a treasure trove of bitchy quotes from scouts -- it's like these guys turn into Joan and Melissa Rivers in private -- with none-too-flattering quotes
"When did he have a good game?" another scout said. "Against Wisconsin he played over a guard that's not very good. He stinks. He's not a quick-twitch guy. He can run once he gets off blocks but I never see him defeat people one-on-one. Never."Anthony Morelli's dismembered corpse
would like to disagree. As a guy who obsessively charts Michigan's season
for my other blog, I can answer that question with "against Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Iowa, and most other teams on the schedule," but that's just me. The scout cattiness appears to be moot, as general consensus still has Branch a top-ten lock
