I guess if you haven't won your division since '93, you might be open to creative solutions -- and the Philadelphia Phillies certainly are kicking one around. The Philadelphia Inquirer says moving ace Brett Myers to the bullpen as a closer is a hypothetical that was considered in a brainstorming session during the off-season.
"I'll do whatever helps the team," Myers said. "I wouldn't mind it. I wouldn't mind doing either one. Either way, the game is on the line...closing gives me a chance to get in the game every day. I like that, too. I think I could do it. I think my arm bounces back pretty well."
Just because you have a surplus of starting pitching (Brett Myers, Cole Hamels, Adam Eaton, Jamie Moyer, and Jon Lieber), doesn't mean you should consider moving the BEST ONE of the group, even if he's willing to do it. In the meantime, trading Lieber seems to be the most logical solution. Too bad Joe Girardi isn't managing any teams -- he'd probably welcome Lieber with open arms.
