Dallas Goes After Leonard Davis

Dallas has some money to spend and a reason to spend it....albeit in a smart manner. Their first foray into the 2007 free agency season has them targeting Cardinals OL and former Texas Longhorn Leonard Davis. From CowboysPlus.com:

Davis, who grew up in Wortham, Texas, could be a replacement for right tackle Marc Colombo, last year's starter who is also an unrestricted free agent. Offensive linemen spent Friday cashing in mega-deals across the league, but the Cowboys were unsure if they wanted to pay that steep a price.

Davis is an attractive option to Dallas. He played his first three NFL seasons at guard, before switching to tackle in 2004. The Cowboys needs a tackle if Colombo leaves and aren't really sure if guard Marco Rivera can be as effective after his second back surgery in three years. The fact that Davis is flexible is a plus.

Davis is highly courted right now, as offensive lineman have been cleaning up around the league [namely Derrick Dockery to the Bills and Tony Pashos to the Jags]. Namely, dude's financial stock rose a bit. Dallas has the cap room and cash, but are they willing to go there? Davis visited Dallas on Saturday but left without a deal. And, he left to hated rival Washington, who also needs to replace a free agent guard after Dockery left for Buffalo.
