The Sun Sentinel reports that the Miami Dolphins are shopping around TE Randy McMichael, one of the best tight ends in franchise history.
A source said today that the Dolphins are shopping Randy McMichael, who is the franchise's all-time leader in catches (283) and receiving yards (3,096) for a tight end. The Dolphins are asking for a third-round pick, the source said. McMichael, a 2002 fourth-round draft choice, is coming off his third consecutive season with at least 60 catches.
This comes as a surprise, since he has continued to perform and is one of the few consistencies on this team. However, this is keeping in line with their recent cuts of Kevin Carter, Bennie Anderson, Jeno James and Seth McKinney. McMichael is set to earn a $3M roster bonus and has a $1M base salary for the 2007 season.
New GM Randy Mueller is on a mission to change up the makeup of a team that was one of the NFL's biggest disappointments of 2006. Miami has signed just one of their own 15 unrestricted free agents.
Even McMichael's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is surprised by this news.
"They have not said anything to me about it nor have any teams contacted me about it," Rosenhaus said. "I've got no comment on it because it's the first I've heard of it."
