To review, yesterday at noon, Jake Plummer was being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But by 1:30, he was ready to retire. Is he really done with football?

The Rocky Mountain News says:

he'll embark on a future probably filled with extensive travel, quality time with his serious girlfriend and charitable work, maybe even the Peace Corps in retirement.
From pro athlete to the Peace Corps? Really? The Denver Post quotes his mom saying he'll do something unexpected:
He needs a break, but I foresee him doing something else. He's a lot like Pat Tillman. Pat would do something unexpected. Jake used to say, 'I wonder what Pat would have done next.' Jake is a lot like Pat. He has that same rebel soul."

I'm not entirely convinced that he's finished. I still think joining former coordinator Gary Kubiak in Houston makes a lot of sense. And I think Jon Gruden might be able to sweet-talk him into coming to Tampa. But I hope he really does follow in Tillman's footsteps and do something no one would expect from a professional athlete. Plummer is a smart guy who should do something more useful with his life than standing on a sideline holding a clipboard.
