With 14.5 seconds left in the game, UNC center Tyler Hansbrough was fouled hard by Duke's Gerald Henderson and left the game with blood gushing from his nose.
Hansbrough....aka Psycho T....grabbed a rebound and was going up for a shot when a gang of Blue Devils fouled him. In the scrum, Gerald Henderson swiped his forearm across Hansbrough's face....hitting Hansbrough's nose with his elbow. Hansbrough fell hard, holding his nose. As he came up, blood was spilling out of his nose into his mouth and was looking like he was ready for a fight. UNC players and coaches, as well as game officials hurriedly led Hansbrough off the court and to the locker room....leaving a trail of blood in his wake.
The officials huddled up and eventually tossed Henderson from the game....calling the shot a 'combative foul' that should warrant at least a one-game suspension. The suspension would be served in Duke's ACC tournament game against NC State this Thursday.
No word yet on the extent of the injury to Hansbrough. I'll post more as information is given.
UPDATE: According to most outlets, the injury just looked worse than it actually was. The nose wasn't broken and Hansbrough had cotton in his nose as he watched the team cut down the nets celebrating their regular season ACC championship. And this from TarHeelBlue.com:
He was standing in the Smith Center training room with his father, trainer Marc Davis, a dentist, and sports information honcho Matt Bowers. The first move was to have him cough into a trash can, which send blood streaming. Finally, the blood stopped streaming from his nose. The front of his jersey, from the neck to the waist, was covered in bright red blood. Hansbrough's blood. And this is what he said: "I want to go back out there. Like this."
