I have no idea who SeattleStatman is. He (I'm assuming it's a "he") posts comments on various message boards, and I'm sure Sam Smith would tell you that he lives in his parents' basement and has never had a girlfriend. But the story of Ron Borges isn't complete without including SeattleStatman, and the story of Ron Borges is the latest example of the way anyone with an Internet connection can influence the media.

Borges is the Boston Globe writer who was suspended for plagiarism. In my previous post about Borges, I said the plagiarism was first reported by Cold Hard Football Facts. But as both FanHouse commenter shmessy and Cold Hard Football Facts itself have pointed out, it was actually SeattleStatman who first pointed it out on the Patriots page of the ESPN message boards.

After SeattleStatman pointed it out, Cold Hard Football Facts picked it up, and several other sites (including FanHouse) followed suit. But it all started with one guy. SeattleStatman, I salute you.
