It wasn't long ago that the Big Unit was scared of the media making fun of him while he rehabs from off-season back surgery. Now it looks like the gentle giant is beginning to make some strides after throwing a 55 pitch bullpen session on Wednesday.

"I'm not worried about my back any more," Johnson said. "Not that I ever was, but when I go out there now and get the ball I try to do what I've done throughout my career, throw strikes and get batters out. As time progresses, I would like to think I'll be better. Right now, I'm pretty pleased."

Seems like manager Bob Melvin is just as optimistic

"His command was outstanding," Melvin said. "That was the thing that impressed me the most - his command on both sides of the plate and the command of his breaking ball."

This all seems like good news for D'Backs fans as well as fantasy baseball owners thinking of drafting Randy. In a few weeks we'll have a much better handle on the situation -- by then the Unit should have made his first spring training appearance.

As for me, I'll still steer clear of Randy. After all, how successful can he be transitioning from the NL to the AL?
