Islanders' Chris Simon Cheap Shots Rangers' Ryan Hollweg

If the NHL has any sense, Chris Simon's season is over. Banning him for the rest of the year (and maybe into next year) is the only reasonable response to this cheap shot on Ryan Hollweg:

Hollweg checked Simon into the boards. Perfectly legal. Then Simon drilled Hollweg in the face with his stick. Absolutely unacceptable. Hollweg was bleeding from the chin but seems to be OK, but the fact that Hollweg is OK shouldn't get Simon off the hook -- if the stick had been an inch lower and hit Hollweg in the throat, it could have killed him.

"I just feel really bad for letting the team down," Simon said afterward. "I just don't want to say anything about the incident right now because I want to talk to the league first." A reporter asked Simon if he wanted to apologize to Hollweg, and Simon wouldn't answer. How he could fail to show remorse after doing something like that is beyond me.

Simon has been suspended five times in his career, including for three games in 1997 for making racist remarks. There was some justice on the ice: The Rangers won the game 2-1 with a goal on the resulting power play.

UPDATE: This cheap shot came three years to the day after Todd Bertuzzi's cheap shot on Steve Moore.
