of the batting order you perverts. Well, at least he better. And he better like it more than he did last year, when he spent the duration of the season leading off for the Braves and had a pretty poor year by his standards.
After hearing from Black yesterday, Giles said he would wager $5 that he ends up hitting leadoff regularly. Giles prefers to bat second, but he said he aims to please Black, whom the Brothers Giles call by his given first name, Harry. "I'll be 'Leadoff Larry for Harry,'" a grinning Giles said.
And apparently when Marcus was explaining why he's more comfortable at the plate, a surprise guest, and his special friend showed up.
"Hey guys, that's my brother," a buck naked Brian Giles said to a roar of laughter.
Hmm, why does that seem to be a recurring theme in the Padre clubhouse?
As for the baseball implications of this move, it's no secret that Marcus doesn't like leading off. He's not too speedy (certainly nowhere near as fast as Dave Roberts), but he has a lot of power for a leadoff man (see his .917 OPS in '03). To be more effective, Marcus will need to cut down the K's and boost the BB's.
