The NHL announced today that it has suspended New York Islanders forward Chris Simon indefinitely without pay for deliberately injuring New York Rangers forward Ryan Hollweg last night. The suspension is pending a hearing, which has not been scheduled yet. The general consensus seems to be that he ought to be suspended for the remainder of the season, which has 15 games left, and the playoffs if the Islanders make it (they're currently seeded seventh in the Eastern Conference).
Simon has been in plenty of fights, and this is the sixth suspension of his career.
