Late Gate Ends as Duaner Sanchez to Return on Sunday

The banishment is over ... Duaner Sanchez, after his Saturday afternoon meeting with Willie Randolph, will be allowed to resume spring training on Sunday after a three day "suspension" (if that's the correct word) for lateness.

Sanchez had reported about an hour late Thursday morning, according to Minaya. Randolph noted the late arrival was not unprecedented for Sanchez, citing one instance last spring and "a few times" this year. The three men involved in the summit said they were satisfied with it. Sanchez said it lasted some 30 to 45 minutes. "That long?" one teammate said. "How many different ways can you say 'Get here on time?' "

So Sanchez gets to turn over a new leaf on the very day we lose an hour due to springing ahead for daylight savings time. Lucky him. If it were me, I'd just sleep on the pitchers mound tonight. Barring that, Duaner needs to do whatever he can to get to work early (just so long as he doesn't take a taxi ... that's how the rehab got started in the first place.)

"I should be a little more responsible, getting here on time," Sanchez said before his departure and a third straight day without conditioning. Reminded of the perils of "spring forward/fall back," he promised, "That won't happen." Probably not, though Tom Glavine suggested the time change would catch someone napping. "How many guys do we have in camp ... 48? I put the over-under at 2 1/2," Glavine said.

I once showed up an hour late meeting my friends the night after daylight savings time. I had about fourteen hours to turn my clocks ahead and still couldn't remember. The person I was meeting greeted me by asking me what my SAT score was. So remember to spring ahead Duaner, or your SAT score will come into question. Oh yeah, and you'll be traded or cut, too.
