I don't know if this is good news or bad news for Aaron Rodgers. According to Packers general manager Ted Thompson, the team never discussed trading the former first-round pick to the Raiders in a deal for Randy Moss. Rodgers was the 24th-overall selection in the 2005 draft, and the idea was that he would eventually replace Brett Favre. Since Favre may play forever, a trade to Oakland might've been Rodgers' chance to finally see the field. Thompson, however, thinks Rodgers is the heir apparent in Green Bay:
"I think he's a very talented guy... He's everything we thought of in terms of intelligence, and his physical ability, his ability to throw the ball. I like the way he handles himself around the team. I think he has all the attributes to be a good quarterback."Okay, that was a kinda lukewarm-y endorsement, and even though Thompson said sending Rodgers west "has never been discussed inside or outside this building" doesn't mean it may not be in the best interests of the team and Rodgers.
Raiders fans may feel differently, however. If landing Rodgers means no JaMarcus Russell, it may not go over so well. On the other hand, A Moss-less Oakland team means they can select Calvin Johnson with the first-overall pick, and on many levels that has to be a more intriguing prospect than teaming Moss with Russell. Whatever, it's just speculation at this point according to Thompson.
