It's been a while since we've had a catch phrase update from our man Gilbert Arenas, but the wait is now over. In his most recent blog entry, Gilbert tells us that every time he shoots, he says "Don't watch me, watch TV." Yeah, I didn't get it either, but in Gilbert's intentionally quirky world it somehow makes sense.
According to Gilbert, when people are defending him, they're looking at him when he's ready to shoot, and that's where he lets loose with his new line. Basically, he's telling them that if they've seen the highlights, they already know what's going to happen, so there's no need to be checking him out. This all started when rookie Mike Hall said one day during practice that he could check Arenas, to which Gilbert responded:
"What? They don't have TV in the D-League?"
That's the best smack I've heard in a long time, and in my opinion way funnier than Gilbert's newly adopted tag line. But I guess only a handful of players have made it from the D-League, so he can't run that at everyone he faces. With that, let's take Gilbert's advice and watch some TV featuring Agent Zero. Somehow though, I don't think that these are the highlights he had in mind.
Ouch, that Cleveland game from last year's playoffs still hurts to watch. What's funnier though, that stupid song behind some NBA highlights, or the fact that someone took the time to edit together a reel of Gilbert missing shots for three and a half minutes? For me, it's a toss-up.
