I don't think there's any question that the No. 1 complaint of the NFL's paying customers is that the officials make too many mistakes, and that complaint is confounded when instant replay both fails to fix those mistakes and delays the game. So it's a bit of a surprise, as Peter King reports, that the referee has to look at potentially game-changing replays in standard definition -- not high definition -- because the owners don't want to pay for HD replay equipment. Now the league is at the point where it wants to update the equipment to include high-definition pictures with better resolution. But the owners are reluctant to spend millions for 32 state-of-the-art replay setups...
Lots of guys who make $30,000 a year can afford HD TVs in their living rooms, and you're telling me billionaire NFL owners can't afford HD replay systems? That's insane. Come on, owners. Pay up. If it helps even one referee make the right call one time, it was worth the cost.
