We've been following Randy Johnson's progress carefully as he recovers from off-season back surgery. At last report, the Unit was pleased with his 52 pitch batting practice session. Even though Randy will throw batting practice later on Monday (his second BP session of the spring), manager Bob Melvin reportedly isn't so sure that Randy Johnson will be ready to throw in a Cactus League game"We still haven't figured out where he'll pitch," Melvin said. "There are a lot of things that figure into that."The options according to the East Valley Tribune are for Randy to throw in a B game or minor league game.
Johnson's future depends on how today's outing goes, but his chances of making a Major League start in the first week of the season are seemingly slimmer. This can't be good news for the Diamondbacks considering defending NL Cy Young winner Brandon Webb is suffering from a neck injury that caused him to miss his last start.
