The Denver Nuggets are the NBA's hottest team, having won five straight games. Things seem to finally be clicking: Iverson and Anthony are getting everyone involved while still getting their numbers, the supporting cast is converting shots (hello, Linas Kleiza!), and a bit of defense is being thrown into the mix from time to time. Not all is well in Denver, though, because coach George Karl's son Coby needs surgery to remove cancerous lymph nodes. A teary-eyed Karl (who might have to miss a game or two to be with Coby) explained that his number one priority right now is the health of his son.
"It's made the year hard," Karl said. "It's hard, but it's also made me realize that I have to take care of him, and that's number one on the list. Sometimes it's actually made me walk away from basketball faster than I would have in the past. But, you know, our goals and ambitions and priorities are to get him healthy, get him in a good place."Coby Karl, who has aspirations of playing in the NBA, had his thyroid removed last March and his upcoming surgery isn't expected to be complicated. According to his father, the cancer is treatable.
Here's to a speedy recovery for Coby.
