Despite all the trade rumors flying around regarding Giants closer Armando Benitez, Andrew Baggarly was still able to work this nugget into his article Tuesday. Here's the story as relayed by reliever Jack Taschner:[In] 2005, when the club had nine September call-ups. Benitez invited all of them to lunch on a day off, then took them to a Men's Wearhouse in San Francisco to outfit them with travel clothes. He bought them two suits apiece.Come on Armando, you couldn't step it up and go Hugo Boss or Versace? If he'd a tried to give me a Men's Wearhouse suit I would've thrown that thing right back in his face -- cheapskate. I wonder where he took him to lunch -- BK or Jack's? Wait, maybe he stepped it up and took 'em to Subway.
...
"He must've dropped $20,000 and didn't bat an eye," Taschner said. "No one talks about how generous he is with young guys. If someone is looking at a magazine and says they like a pair of shoes, the next day the shoes are in his locker. He's always doing things like that."
Just kidding Armando -- that's a heck of a gesture and it shows what a kind, generous, and thoughtful person you are. As I said before, the Giants need to keep you around if they want to compete this year.
