The Angels Will Start The Season Without Jered Weaver

It's been speculated about for a while in Los Angeles this spring, but manager Mike Scioscia made it official yesterday. Jered Weaver is going to start the season on the disabled list.

Weaver, who only began throwing off a mound less than two weeks ago because of biceps tendinitis, won't be stretched out enough to make his first scheduled start April 6.

"Right now that's unlikely," Scioscia said.

The current plan is for Weaver, who will open the season on the disabled list, to make his debut April 12 at Cleveland. Dustin Moseley likely will take Weaver's place the first time through the rotation.

Maybe Gary Matthews Jr. can recommend something for Jered's ailing biceps?

Weaver blew up on the big league stage last season in his rookie year, going 11-2 with a 2.56 ERA. He's scheduled to throw in a Mark Prior simulated game on Thursday where he'll throw his first breaking balls of the spring.

After that, the Angels and Weaver aren't exactly sure what their plans are. The team will be heading to Anaheim at the end of next week, and they're still trying to decide whether to leave Jered behind for extended spring training, or have him rehab in the minors.

Whichever route they take, it better end up in Anaheim, or the Angels will be in deep trouble.
