The King is Dead: Texans Acquire Matt Schaub

Finally, sweet relief! The David Carr rumors are about to come to an end. Adam Schefter reports that, before the day is over, the Texans will send a second-rounder (and perhaps other compensation) to the Falcons for backup quarterback Matt Schaub. This has huge ramifications for the Texans, Falcons, and the draft.

For the Texans, it means that they have, perhaps, their quarterback of the future. Schaub has started only two games in his career, going 81-for-161 with six touchdowns and six interceptions, so there are no guarantees that he'll work out in Houston. But there's been a buzz about him and his potential as a starter for years, and he'll finally get his chance. They thought they had that guy in Carr, but for a myriad of reasons things didn't work out. Now they can find a new home for the beleaguered first-overall pick.

As far as the draft is concerned, the Texans should no longer be interested in Brady Quinn. This shakes up the top 10 picks, as the Notre Dame quarterback has been projected to land anywhere from the Lions (second overall) to the Texans at eighth. The Texans could potentially use Carr to move up in the draft (perhaps for Adrian Peterson, as has been rumored) if a team would rather have someone with Carr's experience than a rookie, or acquire more picks in general.

The trade also means that Bobby Petrino wasn't lying when he told Michael Vick and his nefarious water bottle that he was going to be the guy in Atlanta. Whether that decision will bite the Falcons in the end remains to be seen.

You could expect more coverage of this as details emerge.
