You'll Have to Wait an Extra Month for Chelsea/Manchester United

The April 14th showdown between Chelsea and Manchester United is no longer the April 14th matchup. It is now the May 9th matchup.

That's unfortunate for Premiership fans. These are the two best teams in the league, the two glamour clubs, and the league title could potentially hinge on this matchup. By moving it later in the season, they increase the likelihood that the match could be irrelevant. United currently has a six-point lead in the standings. If it stays that way through May 9th, Chelsea couldn't win the title. Even if they beat United, and United also lost their last game (against West Ham -- not likely) while Chelsea wins theirs, it would get them to equal on points, but they'd still trail in the tiebreaker, total goal differential.

Kind of a raw deal for Premiership fans. The most intriguing match of the season might've just been made irrelevant.

Though I suppose there wasn't much the league could do about it. Both United and Chelsea advanced to the FA Cup semifinals, forcing the postponement. I just wish they could have found an earlier date.
