According to Lexington's WKYT-TV, which interrupted normal programming at about 3:10PM ET on Thursday to report this news, Tubby Smith is, quote, "on his way to Minneapolis this afternoon to meet with officials at the University of Minnesota and potentially accept the head coaching position."

From Catspause.com:

The station, which is the official television partner of UK, cited a source "uniquely close to the situation" as saying Smith told his players he was accepting the job.

Officials at UK did not return phone calls this afternoon before news broke on Minneapolis television stations as well as WKYT. WKYT sports anchor Rob Bromley, the host of the Tubby Smith Show, reported on air that he spoke with Smith around 3 p.m. and Smith said he was "checking it out" when asked about the Minnesota position.

Stay tuned to the AOL NCAA Basketball FanHouse for more on this situation as it develops.
