Police in Jamaica say Pakistan's cricket coach, Bob Woolmer, was strangled after his team suffered an upset loss to Ireland in the World Cup, and police are asking players on the team to submit DNA samples and fingerprints. According to the Jamaica Observer,
Deputy Police Commissioner Mark Shields said there were no signs of forced entry or a struggle inside Woolmer's 12th floor hotel room, and there was no evidence any of his belongings were missing, suggesting that he was killed by person(s) with whom he was familiar.
The News International of Pakistan reports that Jamaican officials might not allow Pakistani team members to leave the country as scheduled on Saturday because they want to "interrogate" players, but The News adds, "Pakistani team management is, however, adamant that the squad would head back home according to schedule."
Born in India to English parents, Woolmer was a cricket player and commentator in addition to having coached in South Africa and Pakistan. The photo shows a Pakistani cricket fan lighting candles at a memorial for Woolmer.
