The web site Pro Football Talk is reporting that ESPN's Joe Theismann will not return as a Monday Night Football commentator for the 2007 season. If PFT's sources are correct, football fans who like Xs and Os are going to be very, very happy: Ron Jaworski is reported to be Theismann's replacement.

It was an uneven debut year for Theismann, who teamed with Mike Tirico and Tony Kornheiser on ESPN's first year having MNF. Reviews of both Kornheiser and Theismann were generally negative, but ESPN had previously indicated that both would be back alongside the longtime ESPN broadcaster Tirico.

However, the Detroit News quoted Detroit Tigers pitcher Nate Robertson today saying that ESPN had offered the Monday Night gig to Bill Parcells, and that Parcells declined. It's not entirely clear how Robertson would know, but if ESPN was talking about finding another analyst, that's a strong sign Theismann's job is in jeopardy.
