Porter Great; Missed Magic Moment (For Now)

You really have to hate Tajuan Porter. Well, only if you are a UNLV fan. Otherwise, you have to marvel at one of the greatest performances in NCAA tournament history. Porter scored approximately one point for every inch in height in beating UNLV on Friday night. You know a guy is hot when he gets the ball and all of the opposing fans in the sports bar (alright me), scream, "No, not that (expletive) guy!" Porter hit from everywhere, like those old Magic Johnson/Larry Bird commercials where they are playing horse.

The only thing missing for Porter was a last second shot in the end so CBS could replay it over and over (and over) again each March. You know the ones, that Valparaiso guy. Tyus Edney had the coast-to-coast layup in the final seconds against Missouri. Christian Laettner had his moment, stomping his heel into the chest of some hapless Kentucky player.

Big moments that helped propel their teams to national championships.

And someday, we might look back at Porter's 33-points as the turning point in Oregon's national championship run. This NCAA tournament is wide-open right now. Unlike last year, you could make a case for any of these teams winning the whole thing, and why not Oregon. Porter might not have had that magic moment last night, but as a converted believer, that moment still might be to come.
