No joke. You know how there's always issues with jersey numbers when a player joins a new team? It's customary for the newcomer to lavish the incumbent with a gift of some sort -- be it clothes, cash, or some cool gadget -- as a thank you. Well, when the Dodgers signed Juan Pierre in the off-season, it created a minor issue because Pierre's number of choice, nine, was already worn by Grady Little. So the two came up with an exchange after Little agreed to trade his number without hesitation:
Pierre showed his appreciation by asking Little what he'd like in return. Knowing Kent owns two motorcycle dealerships in Texas, Little suggested that Pierre and Kent come up with a bike appropriate for a 57-year-old who likes to clear his mind cruising from Pinehurst to Myrtle Beach and back.Once again from the "things we don't really understand" file comes this story. What is it with managers these days, La Russa gets a tattoo and DUI, and now we get news that Little rides choppers?
...
Kent chose a Yamaha with an 1800cc engine and is having fun customizing it the way Little wants it. All Pierre has to do is write a check.
Can you just imagine it? 57-year-old Grady Little, white hair flapping in the breeze, gut spilling onto the pavement, just cruising along the coast? I hope you can because I sure have a pretty visual in my head.
One piece of advice though Grady, make sure you don't let Kent teach you how to do wheelies.
