I know, I know, no one cares that the miserable Portland Trail Blazers hired a new general manager. Even if he is the guy responsible for Sergio Rodriguez's presence on their roster. And this summer's busy draft day that brought Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge on board. But today, The Oregonian has some Kevin Pritchard tales that might change your mind. Take, for one, his willingness to get down and dirty with the team:
[Pritchard] has exhibited fight, once drawing the delight of McMillan by charging onto the Staples Center court in Los Angeles in support of the Blazers when a heated confrontation developed this season with the Lakers. Not your typical executive behavior. How about the time he took it upon himself to talk real with the team's problematic franchise player:
Last month in Seattle...after a blowout loss to the Sonics, Pritchard pointedly addressed the team in the locker room, going as far as to call out star Zach Randolph.According to the article, everyone loves the guy, and Blazer Ime Udoka says the squad approved of Pritchard's locker room appearance. I wonder, though, how much this goodwill has to do with his reputation as an ace judge of talent--or at least as someone who can't be directly blamed for any of the team's recent woes.
