Proving that fate has a sense of humor, a series of injuries and timing between starts has left the Yankees with no other choice than to kick off the year with Carl Pavano as their Opening Day pitcher. Pavano hasn't thrown a pitch in a regular season game since June 27, 2005 against the Orioles ... and if you think that's a long time, you are correct. New York's WFAN 660AM recounts just how long on their sports blog:Mazzilli was fired later that summer, making the Orioles one of 12 major league teams that has changed managers since Pavano's last start. The Marlins have actually done it twice. And that doesn't count the Reds, who fired Dave Miley just 6 days earlier. There's a lot more where that came from, so I suggest you read the whole post.
