According to Eli Wahlstrom of Cardinals Report, if Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson is still on the board at number five, Ken Whisenhunt will draft him.I know that Whisenhunt has been very focused on the running game since taking over in Arizona, but I had no idea that he may be looking to the draft for another running back. However, I have read that he's looking to cut down on Edgerrin James carries so I guess that would make sense.
Peterson would certainly add a whole new element to the Cardinals. It would give them two potential 1,000 yard backs with a big run-blocking fullback to lead the way. On paper the Cardinals would seem like a dominate rushing team -- how strange is that just to say? Frankly, as a fan I would welcome and embrace that scenario. Not only would the Cardinals then have the best wide receiver combo in the league with an up-and-coming quarterback, they'd also have a deadly ground attack.
I may be getting a bit ahead of myself here, but that sounds like an offensive juggernaut to me.
