Boston Globe sports columnist Dan Shaughnessy's tiff with Curt Schilling is well-documented, which made his flight to Kansas City all the more awkward when he was seated directly across the aisle from Schilling's wife Shonda. From the Boston Herald's Inside Track:Anyway, according to our spies, there were no words exchanged between the frequent flyers. In fact, they went out of their way to ignore each other. Shonda was chatting up a person on her other side whilst Dan quickly put on a headset.
"I respect her privacy and am not sure she recognized me," Shaughnessy told the Track, (who believe that Shonda knew exactly who she was staring at across the aisle.)
"Still," he said, "an incredible coincidence - or a gate agent with a strange sense of humor."
I'm guessing Shaughnessy wasn't worried or didn't care about being seated next to Shonda on the flight back considering the potshots he took at Schilling after Monday's game in his column today:
Blogmaster Schilling threw like a man suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, yielding five runs on eight hits and two walks in just four innings.Carpal tunnel syndrome. Is that funny? Because I don't get it. I mean, isn't it very likely that Shaughnessy spends more time in front of a keyboard than Schilling, considering, I don't know, he's a professional writer? And honestly, Schilling's post about the game was far more insightful than the rest of Shaughnessy's piece. I promise that we won't continue devoting three posts to every start Schilling makes this year, but sometimes pointing out some of the local hackery needs to be done.
