Who knows if he'll keep it up all season, but this could get pretty interesting if Curt Schilling intends to blog after every game. Schilling, of course, was
rocked by the Kansas City Royals yesterday, and he was quick to admit on
38 Pitches (ironically, almost the number of pitches he needed to get out of the first) that he just plain sucked:
Not sure where to even start. Two words sum it up best, no command. Can't remember a game where I couldn't make adjustments but today was certainly one of those. Not so much the secondary pitches but no fastball command is not something that happens much, if at all, over an entire game (even if the 'game' for me only lasts 4 innings).
He goes on to talk about his actual pitch sequences against various batters, if you're really into getting into the nuts and bolts of what goes through a pitcher's mind on the mound. Leaving the hill after a long first inning in which he gave up three singles and walked in a run, Schilling knew he was in for a long game:
Not the start I was hoping for. Walking off the mound I knew my FB command was crap, and that I'd need to get it right fast.
As we all know now, it didn't happen. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings for Schilling and his blog, but I think this can only benefit the fans, who get a more honest and colorful recap than the standard AP story re-published everywhere else around the web.
