A Boston Globe notes column by Mark Blaudschun reports that the Memphis Grizzlies are rumored to be ready to offer Florida coach Billy Donovan a long-term contract to leap to the NBA.

Current Memphis coach Tony Barone is known to be a placeholder -- keeping the pine warm while the Grizz undergo a rather important offseason. Barone hasn't made headlines since completely reversing Memphis' offensive ways, shunning Mike Fratello's molasses pace for a run-and-gun ACC-style offense. Memphis hasn't exactly gotten better, still in line for the best chance at the top pick.

Wouldn't it be strange if Memphis did land Donovan, then picked Greg Oden? With Pau Gasol and Rudy Gay and Kyle Lowry, it's clear center is the most important position. But Donovan might rather have Joakim Noah there, right? Could a team concievably walk away from a decade of Oden due to coaching preferences? Seems unlikely, but impossible is nothing nothing is impossible.
