When Joakim Noah told Jim Nantz that he had "no idea" how the Gators were going to celebrate, he must have been talking about this: the Florida Gators second championship will be immortalized by a Wheaties Box.I don't have tremendous perspective on the world of breakfast cereal, as I haven't had a bowl of cold cereal in probably 15 years (I've been waiting for Clark Griswold's non-nutritive cereal varnish to hit the market). So I'm not an voice of authority on this, but it seems to me that being on the Wheaties Box isn't as big of a deal as it used to be (see accompanying picture ... and make up your mind, lady, is it Cheerios or Wheaties?).
Maybe the Wheaties Box was never a big deal to begin with, and my perspective was skewed back in the day when I thought it was. I don't know. It might just be me, but when the WNBA champions get on the cover, then some of the luster is gone. I believe that cereal actually tastes worse when the crunchy flakes are housed in a box depicting the Detroit Shock.
Anyway, the Breakfast of Champions is making the box available nationwide in two or three weeks, and the cover will feature the mascot, the Gators logo, and a photograph of the team cutting down the nets.
