Penn State Players Allegedly Involved in "Street Confrontation" and "Apartment Assault"

There are a lot of things in life that aren't certain. This one is.

It's never good when someone is talking about your football players being involved in an incident where "somebody got punched and kicked".

Never.

Penn State faces this today, as a report in the Centre Daily Times says that police are investigating an incident early Sunday morning. They believe football players were involved, but they aren't saying how many or to what extent, and the players haven't been identified.

The Daily Collegian reports that residents of the apartment where the incident occurred plan on pressing charges. Police say the "apartment assault" was preceded by a "street confrontation".

The Centre Daily Times article has an account of the apartment incident:
That student, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that a little while later "a few of them" came to his door and he told them they could not come in, but then 10 or more appeared and "pushed their way in" and the assaults began.

"I said, 'Leave, leave, leave,' " he said. "They just walked right in. They were pushing people out of the way. These guys were huge."

The Collegian also spoke to Penn State cornerback Justin King, who denied involvement in any fight but said he did talk to police about a party he was at on Saturday night.

No one at Penn State had much to say about this, mainly playing dumb for the time being. Spokesman Bill Mahon would only say that the university had been in touch with State College police.

Obviously, this isn't the way Joe Paterno envisioned opening his 41st season at the helm of the Penn State program. However, it's difficult to get too excited about this story until we get a better idea of who was involved and what, if any, charges they will face.
