This one hurts. Gilbert Arenas will miss the rest of the season with a torn meniscus, sustained in last night's loss to the Bobcats. From the Wizards Insider:
Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas will be out two to three months with a lateral left meniscus tear in his knee. The injury will require arthroscopic surgery, which will be performed today at Sibley Memorial Hospital by team doctor Marc Connell.
Well, that should just about put the nail in the coffin for the Wizards this season. They were already pretty much guaranteed a first round playoff exit without Caron Butler, and now with Arenas gone they are missing two of their three leading scorers. For a team that doesn't exactly stress defense and who is built on offensive firepower, to say that they are limping into the playoffs is an understatement. The Wizards stand at 39-35, and with eight games remaining it's conceivable that they could actually finish with a losing record.
Dan Steinberg had the over/under for Wizards playoff games at 5.01 as of yesterday; I'm guessing now that the line has dropped to 4.01. Trust me, people: take the under.
