I suppose it shouldn't amaze me that so many people think David Carr could start ahead of Jake Delhomme right now for the Carolina Panthers, but it does. Sure, Delhomme had some really bad games last year, and speculation about his thumb won't go away. However, there's a reason the Texans let Carr go and brought in Matt Schaub, and at least one Houston Texans fan out there would like to remind us of that...
Oh, by the way, this guy's messageboard nickname is "Carr Bombed." So we know where he stands. He also asked why a team like the Dolphins would try to make a trade for Trent Green when Carr was on the market, which is a valid question. If your QB telegraphs every throw he tries to make downfield all that does is invite the blitz, I mean if the defense knows where the hell the QB is going to throw ball when he wants to go downfield (which is the reason why for 5 years Carr hasn't been able to beat a cover 2) and you know you can stop it, then go ahead and bring the blitz, you certainly don't have to worry about getting beat deep. That is also why Andre's YPC has dropped dramatically after his first two seasons, and why Carr had 101 dump offs and other short passes... leading to a overblown comp %, leading to posters on other message boards that think they know what they're talking about and think Carr was this great QB stuck on a bad team...
Maybe, just maybe... Carr is a bust...
But hey maybe somebody who watched this guy play game after game for 5 years is wrong and you who has barely seen him play is right.
So let's not anoint this guy the Panthers' savior just yet. This team a long way from September and has a new offense to learn first. For all we know, Jake can revive his career in Jeff Davidson's scheme. We should give him that chance, if for no other reason than he's been to two NFC Championship games. After all, many folks wanted to replace Jake with Chris Weinke last year, and we saw how that turned out.
