...or any other UFC fighter, for that matter. Pretty Boy Floyd, who's fighting Oscar De La Hoya on May 5th, took some time today to trash talk an opponent who he'll likely never fight. Someone asked him if a boxer could take a UFC guy, and here was Floyd's response: "UFC's champions can't handle boxing. That's why they are in UFC." Mayweather said Tuesday from Las Vegas during a break in training. "Put one of our guys in UFC and he'd be the champion. Any good fighter, he'd straight knock them out."Of course, the UFC people disagree. Dana White, a guy who used to box and teach boxers, took issue.
"I used to talk like Floyd Mayweather when I was involved in boxing," White said. "I talked just like him, until I educated myself about this sport. These guys are amazing athletes, Floyd Mayweather is one of the best boxers ever, (and) Sean Sherk will whoop his ass in under two minutes."I don't think anyone should ever put their ass where their mouth is, but I'd love to see the fight. Fighters, by their very nature, are boastful people. I can't recall a boxer or fighter of any kind ever saying, "Yeah, I don't think I'm going to win this." So no one's braggadocio is surprising or unwarranted. It's almost a prerequisite.
"Any day that Mayweather wants to put his money and his ass where his mouth is, I'm ready," White continued. "If he wants to step up, let's do it."
So what would happen? I've gotta side with the UFC guy here. I mean, these guys get low and make a dive for a takedown with extraordinary quickness. It would be a race to see who gets their shot in first. If they stand for more than a few seconds, obviously, Mayweather kills whoever they want to put out there. But I don't think he'd get that chance. The other guy would charge him, come in low, maybe have to absorb a shot or two off the back of the head, but ... if he can do that and get ahold of the guy, he's golden.
Either way, it'd be over in under a minute.
