With a thorough investigation of news reports and public records, the San Diego Union-Tribune has compiled a list of 308 arrests and citations involving NFL players since 2000. To me, the most striking aspect of the article accompanying the list is that the league could cut out one-third of all the arrests of its players if it could simply convince them to start calling a cab when they go out drinking. The Union-Tribune also found that the arrest rate among NFL players is less than that of the general population, and that 50 men -- or about 3 percent of the league's players -- account for 40 percent of the league's arrests. One such player is Kansas City's Jared Allen (pictured) who could face a stiff suspension for his multiple DUI convictions.
The St. Louis Rams have had just three arrests, two by Dominique Byrd and one by Leonard Little. Of course, I'm not going to praise the Rams, considering that Little's arrest for drunk driving and speeding came after he killed a woman in a previous drunk driving crash. The Cincinnati Bengals, of course, lead the way with 23 arrests.
