The Fanhouse's look at the day's most intriguing matchups
New York Yankees (8-11) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (10-10)-7:05PM Est.
The Yankees are in last place and thanks to those 43 injuries Philip Hughes will be making his first start this evening. There's also a question of whether or not Derek Jeter will play after leaving the Yankees loss to the Devil Rays on Tuesday, but he was in the lineup last night before the game was postponed. This also might be the debut of everybody's favorite mustache in a Blue Jays uniform.
Philadelphia Phillies (9-11) vs. Washington Nationals (6-15)-3:05PM Est.
The Phillies won again last night, their fifth straight, making them the second hottest team in the majors right now. Cole Hamels gets the start this afternoon, and he's looking to have the same dominant performance that started this Phillies win streak. Hamels is coming off his first career complete game, in which he struck out 15 Cincinnati Reds. Shawn Hill takes the mound for Washington and has an ERA of 2.92, but unfortunately that's only good enough for a 1-2 record with the Nats.
Los Angeles Dodgers (13-8) vs. San Francisco Giants (11-8)-10:10PM Est.
If the Phillies are the second hottest team, who's the hottest? That would be the San Francisco Giants who have won their last seven games and look to sweep the Dodgers in LA tonight. Barry Bonds homered again last night to get to 741, and he's going to try for 742 off of Brad Penny. If anybody can keep the Giants from sweeping, it's Penny who's 3-0 with a 1.97 ERA this season.
