Talladega is rich with Earnhardt fans. A few of them might not be too happy if polesitter Jeff Gordon wins another race at their beloved track.Talladega Superspeedway President Grant Lynch gave a stern warning to fans before today's race to respect the "best track on the planet" and used Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s popularity to drive home his point that throwing stuff is unacceptable:
"He said it best, 'It ain't cool. We love this track. You love it. Please respect it."And if fans don't heed the warning:
"NASCAR is about sportsmanship. I want you to show it today. We're going to be out here with our law enforcement officers. If you don't [show respect], we're going to put you in jail. It's as simple as that."Is it wrong that part of me wants Gordon to win just to test the fans' ability to restrain themselves and for track officials to put their money where their mouth is and arrest unruly fans? Maybe I really am a sicko. Or perhaps I'm just a fan of observing human nature.
Update: Junior doesn't have as much influence as we thought. Early post-race reports allege that fans have been hauled out in handcuffs for throwing stuff on the track following Gordon's win.
