It's been a long few weeks for Joe Paterno and Penn State. The incident allegedly involving several of Paterno's football players happened back on April 1, and charges were officially filed last week.

There is good news and bad news now for Paterno's program. The good news is that the charges against four players, including star cornerback Justin King, have been dismissed. The other players no longer facing charges are linebackers Tyrell Sales and Jerome Hayes, along with cornerback Lydell Sargeant.

Bad news? Starting safety Anthony Scirrotto, who led the Nittany Lions in picks last year, still is facing charges. If you want to read between the lines, it's pretty clear that those charges aren't going anywhere. Actually, you don't even have to read between the lines. It's pretty clear.

Assistant District Attorney Steve Sloane called Scirrotto the "lynchpin of responsibility" in the fight. It was a fight that sent two people to the hospital. Scirrotto is charged with felony assault, along with burglary, harassment, and simple assault. Defensive lineman Chris Baker is also facing charges of burglary, simple assault, and trespassing.

I won't bore you with details that you can read here, here, here, or here. Let's just say that while King, Sales, Hayes, and Sargeant are apparently out of the woods with regards to the court system, Scirrotto and Baker are far from it.
