Okay, this is funny, but in a "don't let Dolphins fans see you laughing at them" kinda way. Phinatic
live-blogged last week's draft on the
Phinsider, and let's just say he wasn't psyched about how the first round played out.
Pick No. 9 in particular:
12:46 pm: OMG!!! The first 3 picks have worked out VERY nicely for the Dolphins. But I don't think Quinn will make it down to #9, so they have to make a move with Washington!!!
1:30 pm: Randy Mueller may come out of this looking like a frickin genius!! If we can just get past Atlanta, my dream draft will have already come true!!
[Dolphins select Ted Ginn. 3 - 2 - 1...]
1:55 pm: I'm so angry!! This is terrible!!! How do you pass on Brady Quinn?????? I'm speechless right now. Ted Ginn better be the next coming of Steve Smith because that's the only way you pass on Quinn.
Reading this is akin to
watching this. Oh, the horror. This story has a happy ending, though. Three days after the draft,
Phinatic writes:
Everyone wanted Miami to select Brady Quinn and let him be this team's franchise quarterback. They didn't. Everyone thought that the Dolphins missed their opportunity to get their franchise QB, the piece of the puzzle this team has missed since Dan Marino retired. They didn't.
And it seems like fans are coming around to the realization that John Beck is exactly the guy the Dolphins wanted (if passing on Quinn wasn't a big enough hint). And if you want to make yourself feel better, just
scroll through some of his highlights. Or, better yet, take a look at the
interview Beck did with a local radio station (it's at the bottom of the page). That's right, while Brady Quinn was getting his
wig trimmed, Beck was getting ready for the season.
