We know that the Angels were in trade talks with the Rockies regarding Todd Helton during the off-season. But over the weekend, Denver Post writer Troy Renck pointed out that the Angels are now interested in acquiring Rockies third baseman Garrett Atkins. Renck figures the chances the Rockies trade Atkins are slim:
For the Rockies to even listen on Atkins, it would have to involve a stud young pitcher like Ervin Santana. Even then, a Colorado source confirmed, a deal would probably never happen since Atkins is viewed as part of the Rockies' core moving forward.
Commenting at Purple Row, The Coors Effect says:
The Angels are interested in Garrett Atkins, and I'm interested in Jessica Simpson. Ain't gonna happen.
Which is a good point. However, the Rockies do have hot prospect Ian Stewart in the minor leagues, and he plays third base as well. Additionally, there might be some concerns about Atkins since he's been struggling this year. Combining those factors makes me figure that the Rox would at-least consider a trade if it involved some of the Angels pitching.
