Magglio Ordonez's long locks have become something of a trademark for the star outfielder, and he was already on the record saying that he wasn't going to cut it all year long. But on Friday, he showed up to the park with his hair noticeably shorter, reportedly the first time scissors touched his hair since a trim prior to the World Series. What gives? From the Detroit News:"It was too long," Ordonez said. "Out of control."Leyland, of course, is more than a curious bystander in all of this -- he's already on the record saying he'll wash Magglio's hair for him if he hits .300 this year -- so despite his show of faux-concern he's probably thinking the shorter, the better. Fortunately for the Tigers, Magglio didn't come down with a Samson complex: he still collected four hits, all of the "extra-base" variety, over the weekend, bringing his average to .336 on the year.
His wife's decision?
"No, mine." he said. ... "I couldn't fit it all under my hat," he said.
So it was time -- and, of course, he was getting kidded for it before Friday night's game.
"Don't worry, Maggs," said manager Jim Leyland. "We'll get the guy who did this to you."
