I wonder if head coach Bobby Petrino had any idea what he was getting himself into when he left Louisville for the Falcons job. I'll guess no. In the few months Petrino's been in Atlanta, quarterback Michael Vick has been caught with a pot-concealing water bottle, and recently been connected to a dog-fighting operation. (Which kinda follows since the alleged dog fights took place on his property.)
Well, Petrino's ready to put it all behind him:
I need to believe in Michael," said Petrino, "Since I've been here, a couple of situations have come up and we've talked about them. His track record with me is that he's told me the truth. I'm going to believe what Michael tells me."Yeah, Petrino sure doesn't sound very convincing. When you say you want to believe in somebody that usually means you think they're lying ... or at the very least, the story they've spun sounds way too ridiculous to even be accidentally true.
Let's assume Vick is telling the truth, then what? At some point, doesn't he become more trouble than he's worth? I mean, when the head coach is making comments like: "Michael is working very closely with his attorney to resolve the situation in Virginia... I've certainly spoken to Michael about it. We're hoping for a positive and quick outcome," isn't that a good sign something's wrong?
The Falcons have their three-day minicamp this weekend and it's probably never too early to get Joey Harrington ready for the 2007 season. I have a hunch he's going to see a lot of playing time.
