Once every twelve minutes. That's how often British soccer fans report thinking about the fortunes of their team ... and for the better teams, it's likely to be even more than that. The one odd little anomaly about it is that the two teams that have the most obsessed fans, Sheffield United and Charlton, are pretty bad teams. Charlton's about to be relegated, for crying out loud ... and the average fan still thinks about them 104 times in a given day? Good God, Charlton fans ... do you people hate yourselves?
Eighty times in one day just seems like a huge amount of time to devote to thinking about anything ... if I had Jessica Alba at home, washing my car with a white t-shirt that she was currently wearing, while she was spouting off NBA playoff statistics ... I still don't know if I could think about that more than 60 or 70 times a day. I couldn't afford that much vaseline.
Truthfully, though, we'd probably all be surprised by how often we really think about things like sports. If I were to keep track about the number of times in a day that I thought about something sports-related, it'd probably make 80 look small.
